Artifact History

One of the many promotional objects created to increase awareness and garner support for the Canadian Olympic Committees' bid for Vancouver (and Whistler) to be the host city for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Vancouver/Whistler was selected by the COC in December 1998 and the Bid Corporation was created in June 1999 to see the bid process through to completion.

The Olympic Legacy Collection is owned by Canadian Olympic Committee and, under agreement with City of Vancouver, is managed by the Museum of Vancouver.

General Artifact History

Vancouver won the bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics by a vote of the International Olympic committee on July 2, 2003 at the 115th IOC Session held in Prague, Czech Republic. The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games were held at various venues in Greater Vancouver and Whistler from February 12 -28, 2010 and from March 12 -21, 2010 respectively.
